My Impressions: Gut wrenching heroics, bountiful action, conflict, betrayal, shameful American Govt. bureaucrats.
Michael Kaplan – ex-Marine pilot WWII
Harold ‘Skippy’ Shapiro – ex-Marine pilot WWII
There are far too many other memorable characters to list.
Machalniks, the Hebrew word for Volunteers From Abroad. The story is written in first person.
The story is based on true characters, many of which are discussed at the end of the book.
After WWII a Jewish state was carved out of Palestine. Then the USA and UK apparently decided to stand by while five Arab nations surrounding the new home for Jews annihilated the 600,000 Jews already living in the new area named Israel
Several people were determined to not let that happen. Through donations and by hook or crook a growing number of WWII flying veterans from around the world volunteered to defend the new country and provide equipment, armament and ammunition.
In addition, the USA passed a law prohibiting US citizens from helping or providing material aid to the Jews. Anyone breaking the deplorable law was subject to be fined, imprisoned or lose their US citizenship.
The Machalniks is a story well worth reading. I enjoyed it tremendously.
The editing is not bad but there are a few word issues: misspelled, missing and wrong words used. There are a lot of cases with mingling of past and present tense.
The writing style is simple and straight forward.
Cursing is abundant.
A few sexual scenes are written but they are not graphic.
