The four star rating on Bushwacked is only for the people who appreciate the satirical genre. If you prefer serious reading, this book is not for you.
Giovanni Sacchettini is the handsome, lame brained son of a mafia olive growing patriarch in Sardinia. He is forced to leave home after he admits to deflowering the king's virgin daughter. Gio is only one goofball among an entire family of eccentric goofballs. The story chronicles Gio's escape from the king's prison and his flight to America while it captures the zany characters he meets on his journey.
While in Dodge City, Gio is hired as an Assistant Deputy Sheriff. During his stay he falls in love with a hooker named Priscilla, but doesn't know she's a prostitute. Together they join a movement to remove the wild from the wild men of the Wild West.
Along the way Gio meets Buffalo Bill Cody, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, Sitting Bull and Chief Crazy Horse among a large cast of other foolish, incompetent characters.
He's also present when George Custer is ambushed at Little Bighorn, Wild Bill Hitchcock is shot in the back in Deadwood, Dakota, and when Jesse James' gang robs the bank at Northfield, Minnesota.
This is satire at its wildest and most outrageous.
The editing and sentence structure are good but not perfect.
Character development in most cases is adequate to overdone.
